The strong green and blue on a mature face reinforces that happy, secure people have no need to put others down. Colour is emotive, and keeping the palette simple and using unexpected techniques can unsettle some who are more used to traditional methods. Applying strong colours over the ink lines requires a sense of confidence. Black ink gives a dramatic feel, while gouache can be both opaque and translucent depending on application. Acrylic is dense and covers many sins, note the light halo along the face. Colour is a form of non-verbal communication and why I am attracted to particular hues for different portraits is very intuitive and produces surprizing results. Green is nature and energetic, while blues are authoritative or restful depending on its shade.
