The Clock Tower, Townsville Strand.

The clock tower was controversially demolished many years ago. The building was important to me because during the 1990s it was the building that housed the AIDS Council. I have a story ‘When Townsville was Fabulous’ (2013) under my short stories page above. This painting is a memorial and an invention as the large rock in the background is Castlehill, a monumental lump of ground that the city of Townsville is built around, although I have taken artistic license in bringing the near-mountain closer to the buildings. A big high rise in glass stands there now, my feelings are mixed, friends dead and a landmark demolished, but somehow it also buries the past where it should be anyhow. I made a small clay figurine to model in the painting which is in this gallery.
