The highlight in this portrait is the figure as part of the background held together by the diagonals of the body and the light from the vase into the cheek of his face. The eye is a calligraphy mark and the top lip is a halftone while the lower lip is a shaped hint. The colours are rich acrylic paints applied over the dried ink sketch. This is a favourite portrait because it just happened.
